Villa Nicola di Costa Rei: A South-East Sardinia Base

Costa Rei sits on Sardinia’s south-eastern coast, within the comune of Muravera and roughly an hour’s drive from Cagliari. The area is best known for its long, pale-sand beach, backed by low granite hills and a scattering of holiday settlements strung along the shoreline. Villa Nicola is one of the private holiday homes available to rent in this stretch of the island.

The Location

Costa Rei’s beach runs for several kilometres and is one of the widest on this part of the coast, with shallow water that suits families with young children. The surrounding coastline includes a number of smaller coves and inlets, some reachable only on foot or by boat. Inland, the terrain rises quickly into hills covered with Mediterranean scrub, granite outcrops and the occasional cork oak.

The nearest larger centres are Muravera to the north and Villasimius to the south, both within reasonable driving distance. Villasimius in particular has a marina, a wider choice of restaurants and shops, and its own marine protected area.

Practical Notes

A car is effectively essential here. Public transport along this stretch of coast is limited, and having your own vehicle makes it straightforward to reach the beach, the local shops and the wider region. Cagliari Elmas airport is the main point of arrival for the south of the island.

July and August are the busiest months, when accommodation prices peak and the beach fills up. Late spring and early autumn tend to be quieter, with warm sea temperatures still holding into October.
