Villa Petite Portobello: A Holiday Home by the Sea in Gallura

Villa Petite Portobello: A Holiday Home by the Sea in Gallura
Sardinia’s northern coast is home to a scattering of small, well-kept resort villages, and Portobello di Gallura is among the quieter of them. Set on the island’s north-western shore, between the better-known resorts of the Costa Smeralda and the town of Santa Teresa di Gallura, it offers a stretch of coastline that remains low-key even in high summer.
Where You’ll Be Staying
Villa Petite Portobello is a holiday home within the Portobello di Gallura area, close to the beach. The setting suits families and couples who want the sea within easy reach rather than a drive away, and who prefer a self-catering base to a hotel.
The wider village is gated and car-free in spirit, with low buildings, gardens and pine trees rather than high-rise development.
The Beaches
The nearest beach sits just below the village. Beyond it, the coast towards Vignola Mare and Santa Teresa offers a series of small coves and longer sandy stretches, several of them reachable on foot or after a short drive. The water here is clear and generally calm, which makes it well suited to swimming and snorkelling.
Getting There and Around
The nearest airport is Olbia, roughly an hour’s drive to the south-east. Alghero and Cagliari are considerably further. A car is useful for exploring the surrounding area, though within Portobello di Gallura itself you can manage on foot.
Nearby places worth a visit include Santa Teresa di Gallura, with its harbour and views towards Corsica, and the Maddalena archipelago, which can be reached by ferry from Palau.
Practical Notes
- Best time to go: late spring to early autumn; July and August are the busiest.
- Suitable for: families, couples, small groups.
- What to bring: beach shoes for the rocky sections, and a car if you plan to explore further afield.
If you are looking for a quiet corner of northern Sardinia with the sea close at hand, this part of the Gallura coast is worth considering.
