Costa Rei sits on the south-eastern coast of Sardinia, within the municipality of Muravera, roughly an hour’s drive from Cagliari. The resort was developed in the 1960s and is best known for its long stretch of pale sand, backed by low granite headlands and a sea that shelves gently — conditions that suit families with young children. Behind the beach, the landscape rises into scrub-covered hills dotted with juniper and olive trees.

The surrounding area

Costa Rei’s beach runs for several kilometres and is one of the main reasons visitors return. South of the resort, the road continues towards Villasimius and its marine protected area, while inland the hills offer walking routes and views back over the coast.

Further afield, Cagliari is reachable in about an hour by car, with its old town, markets and ferry connections to the mainland. The interior of the island, including the mountainous Ogliastra region, lies to the north.
